During the course some of the most widely used spectroscopic techniques for the characterization of solid and heterogeneous matrices such as those present in many objects of our Cultural Heritage will be presented. The discussion of the techniques, based on the use of a wide spectral range (X-rays, ultraviolet, visible, near and medium infrared), will be addressed by evaluating and quantifying the advantages and disadvantages of the various analytical approaches, from the study of microsamples to non-invasive measurements both point and imaging/mapping.
